Firm Profile

Founded in New York City in 1972, Kliment Halsband Architects is known for its innovative work in architecture, master planning, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse for educational, cultural, civic, government, and private clients. Clearly conceived and carefully made, our work dynamically responds to a project's unique physical and cultural context, balancing past and current use with future needs. Our longstanding commitment to design excellence has always included creating environmentally sustainable and energy efficient buildings with healthy and comfortable working and learning environments.

A partnership of five, with four associates and a group of architects, interns, and support staff, the firm is characterized by the direct involvement of the partners in all aspects of the work. We collaborate with small groups of colleagues on each project, as well as with outside consultants for engineering and specialized disciplines. Over 50% of our staff are LEED Accredited Professionals.

We have a diverse portfolio that includes projects across the country-from a new federal courthouse in Gulfport, Mississippi, to the preservation and adaptive reuse of Gilman Hall at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, to a new performance and exhibition space at Zen Mountain Monastery in Mt. Tremper, New York. We currently have $250 million worth of projects in the LEED certification process, including two LEED Silver adaptive reuses and a LEED Gold academic building.

The work of the firm has been recognized with over 50 awards for design excellence, including the 1997 AIA Firm Award from and the 1998 Medal of Honor from the New York Chapter AIA, each of which is the highest honor given annually for consistently distinguished architecture.
