Obagi Skin Health Institute
Description
The Obagi Skin Health Institute - a state-of-the-art, full-service medical spa facility - received an exterior facelift and complete interior makeover. A dramatic custom designed fountain anchors the building's street-corner location and provides a welcoming gesture. The bubbling fountain water spills over into a meditative pool that runs parallel to the floor-to-ceiling window façade. Divided by a glass plane, the pool appears to flow seamlessly into the spa's interior space, inviting pedestrians into the retail boutique. On the exterior side of the glass, customized signage doubles as a signature water feature. Milky-white oversized letters spelling OBAGI are suspended above five jets shooting water seven feet in the air, creating the illusion that the Obagi name is perched atop the streaming columns of water.
The remaining street-front windows function as frames for projection screens displaying an animation of the Obagi marketing campaign. A serene face of a beautiful woman emerges from deep blue water and visually expresses the Obagi motto-"Do you believe in transformation?" Her captivating profile and furtive glance are engaging and provocatively set the tone for the transformative experience provided by the medical spa. The interior of the spa features a rectangular design element that encloses the reception area and acts as a transition between the spa's public spaces and private treatment areas. Wrapped floor-to-ceiling in warm pear wood, this rectangular volume visually embraces the Institute's clientele upon arrival. The pear wood box protrudes into the retail space and is molded into a custom retail desk and counter. A cylindrical glass chamber in the center of the retail area is designated for private consultations. Following Dr. Obagi's transformative method of medical skincare, the spa's design is a deeply nurturing interior that includes warm materials to counter the medical functions of the spa. Elegant materials, such as pear wood, white Calacutta marble, custom designed lamps, hues of soft cream and soothing slate-blue impart a timeless feeling to the space. |
