Located in Lower Manhattan’s Seaport Historic District, the Front Street Court-yards were built in conjunction with the adaptive reuse of 11 historic maritime buildings into residential space and the construction of three contemporary residential buildings. The project is a showcase for high-performance green design.

The two interior courtyards create a green oasis that complement the fast pace and density of Lower Manhattan. One courtyard is composed of a modernist patio, edged with a woodland garden, and interposed by a structured stream and a stainless steel planter with red-twig dogwoods. Nature invades the second courtyard, which is occupied by an abstracted bog garden and planted with grass, bracket, and woody plants. Visitors can explore via a pathway and river-rounded stepping stones which wind around a meandering stream.
