Liquidnet, an electronic marketplace that facilitates institutional equity security trading, hired STUDIOS to design a 30,000 square foot interior build-out for their New York office, which serves as the firm’s headquarters. The office itself occupies space spread over 3 floors of an older, Class B office building in Midtown Manhattan. The ultimate goal was to create a space that represents the ethos of this technology based headquarters. Most important to the client and how they function as a company is openness and collaboration.  Their intent was for visitors to see staff members meeting and eating together sending the message that the space – along with the entire floor – is a place for collaboration.

Just beyond the main reception area, STUDIOS integrated an internal, glass-enclosed connecting staircase that anchors the central circulation hub and provides quick, efficient access between Liquidnet’s floors.  An open commons with a café surrounds this central staircase and is utilized as a waiting area for guests, an informal meeting and gathering area for employees and clients, and a presentation event space. Natural light streams through glass walls that provide acoustic privacy for three adjacent conference and meeting rooms with exterior windows. The use of SwitchLite glass provides visual privacy within these conference rooms when needed. An over-sized rear-projection wall is used for product demonstrations as well as a digital bulletin board, showcasing company announcements.

Wood panels covered in red leather, hand-crafted by a local artist, conceal coat closets, trash cans, and A/V, electrical and mechanical equipment. Clean sheetrock walls are lined with spotlights for future art work or left clean for video conferencing, smartboards (digital whiteboards), and presentation screens.
