This 22,000 square foot office space was renovated in a manufacturing space to accommodate the 45 people that function as the national headquarters for Teach for America. The project was done under exceptionally stringent budget constraints and a very tight schedule. The layout is as open as possible, yet allows for the kind of privacy and small meetings that are essential in an organization that reviews many personal applications. To solve this problem, "soft" rooms were created, using felt and carpet as sound absorbers. Graphics are an important part of the design, allowing the mission statement and outreach of the organization to be "read" in the space.
