The Hudson Passive Project is the first passive house that BarlisWedlick designed; today, building to the passive house standard – currently the most rigorous benchmark for energy-efficient architecture and design – is a firm specialty. This project became the first certified passive house in New York State.

The house features hand-laid stone, crane-lifted prefab trusses and wall panels, hand-troweled concrete floors, and both shop-built and custom millwork and cabinetry. But perhaps the most striking element is the vast south-facing glass curtain wall that connects the interiors to nature, and is calibrated to passively heat the home with sunshine. Inside, the house has a contemporary, loft-like feel.
