This complex is part of the first phase of a new university campus for the state of California. In addition to providing power for the university’s first-phase buildings, the plant also plays a key role in achieving the ambitious sustainable design goals outlined by the Board of Regents—20 percent lower than any existing campus in the system and a campus-wide Silver LEED™ rating. The exterior walls of the plant and tank are sheathed in an outer layer of corrugated metal panels similar to the ubiquitous grain silos, farm sheds, semi-trucks, and freight cars found in the valley. The finish of the stainless steel panels captures and reflects the entire spectrum of the brilliant Central Valley summer sun.
